I must admit that my son hates being wet. Always has. Despite my penchant for outdoor play in all weather, if a raindrop hits his skin, he just might yell in agony. So I was delighted when I found Puddle Gear, a Canadian family-run company specializing in PVC-free raingear. My kids now wear their new waterproof outfits all the time, and we have had several rainy play days. The first such day, my son actually announced, "Hey! I like the rain!" He often gives a running commentary on the effectiveness of his raincoat and pants. "See? These parts get wet, but I don't get wet underneath." Hurrah for small miracles. I am impressed by the quality of Puddle Gear's line, Abeko. The fabric is soft and cozy, not at all stiff or smelly. The collar closure is even lined with a bit of fleece for extra comfort. The material is Oeko-Tex certified, guaranteeing that it's free of over one hundred harmful substances. No carcinogens, no phthalates, and no off-gassing. Puddle Gear doesn't have an online store, but you can pick your gear on their website and call or email to place your order. Adult gear is coming soon; parents want in on this action, too!
