Wild parenting - Dressing for it!

Wild parenting - Dressing for it!
I must admit that my son hates being wet. Always has. Despite my penchant for outdoor play in all weather, if a raindrop hits his skin, he just might yell in agony. So I was delighted when I found Puddle Gear, a Canadian family-run company specializing in PVC-free raingear. My kids now wear their new waterproof outfits all the time, and we have had several rainy play days. The first such day, my son actually announced, "Hey! I like the rain!" He often gives a running commentary on the effectiveness of his raincoat and pants. "See? These parts get wet, but I don't get wet underneath." Hurrah for small miracles. I am impressed by the quality of Puddle Gear's line, Abeko. The fabric is soft and cozy, not at all stiff or smelly. The collar closure is even lined with a bit of fleece for extra comfort. The material is Oeko-Tex certified, guaranteeing that it's free of over one hundred harmful substances. No carcinogens, no phthalates, and no off-gassing. Puddle Gear doesn't have an online store, but you can pick your gear on their website and call or email to place your order. Adult gear is coming soon; parents want in on this action, too! Rainy days are no longer a write-off ...just in time for the snow. Stay tuned for next week's tutorial on dressing for winter.

Good Things to know about Puddlegear

All the Abeko rain gear mentioned in this catalogue is made of Atek. (as described below) most pieces of the gear are also ÖKO-tex a European standard in ecology coming to North America. (also described below) Puddlegear is PVC free - many Environmental groups concerned about chemicals in our world refer to PVC as poisonous plastic…many kids rain suits are made of this dangerous plastic. It poisons our world from the manufacturing practice until well... who knows because it's not biodegradable... Scientist believe that it never stops off gassing. Without organs to filter these toxins out of your child's blood these poisons go straight through your child's skin to collect in the body. This is referred to as "toxic load". Lets not talk about what Puddlegear is not... lets talk about what Puddlegear is! Environmentally friendly and kid safe rain gear for tough customers!

Our PVC Free Fabric - and its certification

ATEC

Is a Polyurethane-coated stretch fabric. It's a very light, soft, tear-resistant material that allows a full range of motion. Wind and watertight. Tolerates normal temperature changes and is easy to wash. Kids can move normally and not feel stiff in Atek.

What is öko-tex?

Öko-Tex (sounds like echo-tex) is a process that tests for over 100 harmful substances! To give you the more official description, Öko-Tex Standard 100 is an ecological certification process. The testing is scrupulous and applies to every element on the gear. Simply said öko-tex guarantees fewer chemicals around your children. For more info please Click Here.

The long and the short of it is Abeko rain gear sold by Puddlegear in North America stands alone. We hope that the ecological standards and the manufacturing standards have a large ripple effect - on your kids and our planet. The time is right for a consciousness about our choices. At Puddlegear we believe that there is no bad weather... just inappropriate clothing...
